Director of Program Operations

About Young Leaders Strong City:


The mission of Young Leaders Strong City is to educate, equip and activate a community of youth to realize their vision for racial equity and justice. YLSC is designed to elevate the experiences, perspectives, and voices of high school students across the Dallas-Ft. Worth area. Our students focus intentionally on identifying opportunities to promote racial justice, equity, and action in their home and school communities to drive lasting outcomes. We engage with youth in partnership and support them as the future, and growing, leaders of tomorrow. 

 

Role Summary: 


YLSC’s Director of Program Operations organizes and oversees the daily operations of our organization by being pragmatic and creative about how we do our work.  They possess thorough and broad knowledge of various organizational processes.  They are a vital member of the YLSC leadership team who is a true partner in helping us discover the most efficient ways to run and grow our organization in a way that is aligned with our mission- for today and our future. 

Role Responsibilities:

 

  • Partner with the CEO and YLSC team to make decisions for operational activities and set strategic goals.

  • Plan and monitor the day-to-day organizational activities (programs, HR, Finance, and event operations) to ensure smooth progress.

  • Develop and implement event processes from start to finish to maximize efficiency and prioritize a space for students that prioritizes joy, student voice, racial equity and safety.

  • Develop and evaluate regularly the efficiency of our policies and procedures according to organizational objectives. Revise as needed.

  • Manage procurement processes and coordinate material and resources allocation.

  • Oversee youth support processes and partner with program staff to improve the experience. 

  • Review financial information and adjust operational budgets as needed. Partner closely with the accounting team. 

  • Manage relationships/agreements with external partners/vendors.

  • Evaluate overall organizational performance by gathering, analyzing, and interpreting data and metrics.

  • Ensure that the organization complies with the city, state, and federal guidelines.  

  • Partner with appropriate legal and HR experts as needed.

  • Partner with the CEO on board relations and communications.

  • Occasional travel to various sites for programming.

  • Other duties as assigned.

 

Qualifications: 

 

  • Experience as Director of Program or Operations or equivalent position, a plus

  • Racial equity framework that can be articulated and impacts approach through the work. This framework should be developed through training and lived experiences

  • Excellent organizational and leadership abilities

  • Outstanding communication and people skills

  • Knowledge of nonprofit management and operations

  • In-depth knowledge of diverse business functions and principles (e.g., operations/logistics, finance, HR, customer service, etc.)

  • Working knowledge of data analysis and performance/operation metrics

  • Familiarity with MS Office and various business software (CRM, project management software, etc.)

  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively

  • Ability to analyze and define a problem, evaluate alternatives and find a solution.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Strong interpersonal skills, ability to establish effective relationships with both internal and external audiences.

  • Excellent time management and attention to detail

  • Ability to share information, delegate responsibility, and coach team members

  • Ability to manage competing priorities and work under pressure

 

Education/Experience:

 

  • No educational requirements are required for this position. 

  • The desired candidate will have a long-lasting commitment to and proven training in racial equity and historical frameworks. This includes prioritizing their own experiences and those of others.
